Pet Grief
Looking for a Therapist who gets it?
Sheryl Woodhouse, LMFT at Borntobebalanced.com understands the unique pain a pet owner experiences when they lose their fur baby(ies) either due to accident, illness or old age. Pets share unconditional loving time with you like no other human relationship on the planet.
In a small 2019 study of 82 people found that the length of intense grief experienced by bereaved pet owners varies – with 25% taking between 3 months to a year, 50% between one year and 19 months, and 25% between two and six years.
There is help without being told to, ‘just get another pet” or “get over it as it was just a (dog, cat, horse) animal not human”. There are things you can do to move through the pain.
